Inner Critic and Saboteur June 2020 (No sessions)
“I wish I had listened to myself earlier, I knew this wouldn’t work!”
“You shouldn’t be doing this. There are other people who could do this better!”
These are all examples of the kinds of things spoken by our inner critics. They are everywhere. Inner critics constrict our ability to be creative and stop us taking risks. They can view our life as a series of mistakes, undermine our ability to change, and lead us into ‘Ugly Duckling’ or ‘Imposter’ syndromes. Our inner critics are afraid of us shining too brightly or being embarrassed. They tell us that we are too fat, skinny, ugly, tall or short. Our inner critics stop us from taking on the good feelings others have toward us. They are the source of low esteem and tell us that we are not good enough.
Our inner critics can be triggered anytime. For some people they are offering a constant stream of criticism. For others they can be triggered when they receive judgements from other people, or when we become stressed or are in unfamiliar situations such as when we want to try something new. Sometimes inner critics can rear their head when we express part of ourselves that we think is inappropriate for a particular business or social context.
Forming an inner critic is a natural consequence of the way all people are raised. They form in our early years to help us adapt to the world around us. Its purpose was to curb our inclinations and ‘correct’ our behaviour before anyone else could criticise and reject us. But as we mature into adulthood, our critics become heavy chains that constrict us.
Whilst researching this course we found that to work on the inner critic in isolation is an enterprise doomed to failure. This is because we need to work on several interlinked parts of our psyches (in the order that they developed) to free ourselves of inner criticism and self-sabotage. We have designed a unique model that describes the entire inner critic-saboteur complex, which our course follows.
Week 1: Inner Child work, with a focus on the Innocent
Week 2: The Inner Critic
Week 3: The Orphan and Saboteur
Week 4: Betrayal
This course has been designed using up-to-the-minute insights from neuroscience that are juxtaposed with well established depth psychological techniques and ancient shamanic perspectives.
Our course is facilitated by two practicing psychotherapists in a maximum group size of 12 to ensure personal attention. With over 15-years experience in adult education this course strikes a fine balance between experiential learning in the form of guided visualisations and processes through to reflective practices and short sessions of didactic learning. Each week participants receive a short booklet (approx. 10-pages) that offers more information for those who wish to delve more deeply. The booklets become reference material after the course has finished.
What will you get from the course?
In a word: Freedom.
In a few more words: you will breathe easier, express yourself more, find compassion for yourself and others, gain insight and understanding, and live a more authentic and empowered life. You will understand your sabotage behaviours and will have greater resilience to the attacks of your inner critic.
Participants in our January 2020 cohort scored their satisfaction level at 95/100. Here are some of their takeouts:
“I have learned how to identify the voice of the critic. I am beginning to learn to read the message behind the negative talk. A massive learning I will take with me was the way in which my adult self has overridden my core needs. Before this course I didn’t even know what ‘core needs’ were, let alone what my core needs were.”
“I learned how to identify feelings in my body and articulate them. I rediscovered my inner child and have learned tools to be able to tame my inner critic and saboteur.”
So, what are the details?
10-12 hours live and interactive webinars delivered over a month facilitated by two psychotherapists. These are live and interactive and filled with experiential processes engineered to shift your relationship with your inner critic and saboteur. There will be a maximum of 12-people in the webinars to ensure personalised attention.
Course includes receiving a weekly booklet with key reading, information and exercises to consolidate your learning.
A second option for this course includes 4 x one-on-one sessions with one of the facilitators to take the support of your transformation to another level.
